Stones and Sticks

Don’t tell me

that another memory must

be swept under the rug,

don’t say that they were right,

the stones

and sticks

never did break me,

Don’t tell me

that I wasn’t beaten with them

because I was,

but

I have won

because I know

that they were wrong,

to this day I show my scars

proudly

because my beauty is not in my face

but my soul.
